Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Year 2 Photos

Here you will find some photos of what we have been up to in class. Newer items will be towards the top of the page.

This week was a very exciting week! We have been learning all about the classes aboard the Titanic. We found life was very different for those in first class compared to third class!

Next we all picked a name out of a bowl. These names were real passengers who were on that maiden voyage and were a mixture of the first, second and third class passengers plus some crew. Some of these people included Captain Edward John Smith and the famous Margaret 'Molly' Brown.

Once we all had a name each we needed to find out about that person. We researched their age, class and their job. We found out where they got on the ship and their reason for going to New York. Finally we found out if they survived, it was very interesting. We added this information to our very on boarding passes.

Later in the week we wrote a diary and a postcard from the point of view of this passenger.

Retelling the Sikh Diwali story using drama.

After we discovered what the interior of the ship was like we wrote letters from the point of view of passengers describing how it felt to be on the maiden voyage.

Learning about regular and irregular shapes for our new art unit!

To start our new topic all about the Titanic, we have been learning about the construction of the ship. We explored design features and why it was named 'the unsinkable ship'. To show our understanding of this we created adverts encouraging people to buy a ticket.

Our display board is ready for our new topic! You can find out more information about this topic on the 'Our Curriculum' page.

Colour Mixing in Art

We made our very own Colour Monsters and then wrote instructions so you can too!

Happiness is...

Science- Animals including Humans

In Science our topic is called 'Animals including Humans'. This unit is all about animals and their babies, how they grow and change, the basic needs of all animals and finally how we can stay healthy and clean. If you would like to know more, you can find a knowledge organiser on the 'our curriculum' page.

Our reading working wall, we are currently reading The Colour Monster.

Golden Time fun!

We recapped Rainbow Grammar skills.

We made numbers to 100 systematically.

Maths- Place Value

In Maths we have been exploring numbers to 100. We started off with low numbers but it soon got more challenging.
