Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Homework

Handwriting Practise

Please click on the link below which will take you to a handwriting site we use in school. Please focus on 'continuous cursive beginners' and 'capitals beginners' to practise forming letters correctly.

Wednesday 6th January- Wednesday 13th January

This week your child will need to log in to BusyThings, click on assignments and then complete the maths homework. We have been learning about 3D shapes and the homework is to match the names with the 3D shapes. You may need to help your child to read the words and the only ones we haven't covered are hemisphere and prism.

Please continue to practise and learn spellings set for your child too.

Wednesday 16th December- Thursday 7th January

Over the Christmas holidays I would like you to try logging onto Spelling Shed to practise spellings ready for the new year. Please see your child's book bag towards the end of the week for instructions of how to do this.

Wednesday 9th December- Wednesday 16th December

This week there is a game on the favourites on BusyThings called 'bird words'. I would like the children to play this game which is all about reading and then typing the words. I need them to read the words by segmenting and then blending or reading by sight, and then finding the letters on the keyboard to type the word.

I will keep track of who has played and they will be rewarded with 1 house point!

Wednesday 2nd December- Wednesday 9th December

This week we have practised subtraction.

To get the children used to seeing both addition and subtraction number sentences, I would like the children to log into BusyThings, click on favourites and play the game called Miner birds: Christmas edition.

They will need to work out addition and subtraction number sentences. You may need to remind your child when they add they need to add both amounts together and when they take away they need to take the 2nd number away.

Please encourage your child to use counting things at home or use their fingers if they need help, as this is all good practise for Maths work and it is how we work out in the classroom too. There may be numbers up to 20 which we have not yet covered, so your child may need help with these questions only.

1 house point will be given to children who have played this game.

Wednesday 25th November - Wednesday 2nd December

This week we have learnt about life in the Victorian times.

I would like the children to log into BusyThings and create a small poster about what Victorian schools were like. They need to include pictures which they can choose from and then type sentences about Victorian schools from their learning in the week.

Children can type 1 sentence or if they find typing easy they can type a few more sentences.

Children will need help with capital letters and using the space bar. The rest of their sentences should be spelt phonetically or as they would usually write.

Children will need to type their name at the top of the poster and then save their work in their file NOT the shared Year 1 file. They can label this work as Victorian Schools.

Please continue with BusyThings games. As we are covering more in Letters and Sounds, I have added further phonemes (sounds) to increase the challenge!

I look forward to reading their posters and seeing their improvements with typing!

Wednesday 11th November - Wednesday 25th November

Time is flying by and we will soon be getting ready to film our scenes for our Christmas play!

Please, please practise rehearsing lines with your child. They need to speak clearly and show expression.

If your child has fewer lines to practise, they should be able to remember these from memory.

If your child has more lines, they do not need to remember all of them but need to know the words and become familiar with reading them.

Wednesday 4th November - Wednesday 11th November

Log in to Busy Things and click on favourites.

You will see a new game called 'Tree Keys'. It involves finding letters on a keyboard. Last week we started our ICT lessons and the children found identifying the letters really tricky. This game should help the children get better with practise. Although there is nothing to submit, I can still see which children have played which games on the favourites list, so house points will be rewarded if this game has been played by the 11th of November.

Feel free to leave me a message on BusyThings if you wish to let me know how your child gets on!
