Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Homework

Handwriting Practise

Please click on the link below which will take you to a handwriting site we use in school. Please focus on 'continuous cursive beginners' and 'capitals beginners' to practise forming letters correctly.

Friday 29th October - Wednesday 3rd October

For homework this week, I would like the children to look at their Science knowledge organiser which can be found in the star on our class page labelled 'Knowledge Organiser.' The one to focus on is 'Animal and their needs.' This is our new Science topic this half-term and children need to be able to understand all of the information on these knowledge organisers in year 1. This week the children have found the animal group names tricky to understand so please look at these words in the vocabulary section...

Amphibian

Mammal

Reptile

The children will need to know the meaning of these words and/or think of a few animals which belong to the animal groups. Please spend time explaining the meaning and researching animals. On Wednesday's Science lesson, the children will have a short quiz where they write the definition for each of the animal groups and/or draw a picture to show animals which belong to those animal groups. 1 house point will be awarded for correct definitions and/or matching animal pictures.

Please continue with spellings. Children have been given their new spellings for the week which are also on Spelling Shed.

Please continue with reading. If your child has found the book a little tricky to read, please keep it and re-read 2-3 times. It is really beneficial for children to re-read books to build up their fluency when reading words.

If your child is in the Year 1+ group, I would like them to also have a go at the Science homework and continue with their reading. I would also like them to go onto Busy Things and practise number recognition and counting this week. The games to look for are 'Read the number 1-10' which needs to be completed with an adult and 'Balloon tree' which is all about number recognition and counting carefully. 1 house point will be awarded for those games played and any correct parts completed on the Science quiz.

Friday 15th October - Wednesday 27th October

For homework this week, I would like the children to log onto Busy Things and find the game 'Islands - how many?' in 'Favourites'. This game allows children to practise adding 2 amounts together which we have been practising this week. 1 house point will be rewarded after half-term for this game.

Please also continue to practise spellings ready for after half-term.

Please also continue to practise the reading games on Busy Things as we have started phase 5 sounds and children need to practise reading them in words. These have been updated.

There is a tricky word mat provided at the top of this page for you to practise reading phase 3 and 4 tricky words. We have practised spelling the words 'said' and 'so'.

If your child is in the Year 1+ group, I would like them to practise the games 'Feed the monster' and 'Letter box'. I have added more sounds for the children to recognise and blend together. 1 house point will be rewarded for these games played.

The children have worked incredibly hard this half-term and we are already so proud to see the progress they are making! We hope you all have a safe and happy half-term! See you soon!

Friday 8th October - Friday 27th October

For homework this week, I would like your child to try logging onto Spelling Shed with the logins provided at the start of the year. If there are any problems we can solve this before half-term. As this is the first time, spellings will be available from Friday until after half-term but on a normal school week spellings will be listed for 1 week. Children can practise their spellings by playing the games and the words in the games will be their spelling quiz which they will be tested on in class every Wednesday. Words will be called out in a random order on the day. Children can also practise their spellings on spare paper if they find this a better way. Please DO NOT write in the spelling books as these are only used for a list of spellings each week to use with your child and for their spelling test to be shown to you from class. If children get a majority of the spellings correct, they will get 1 house point on Friday.

Please continue to use the flashcards on BusyThings to recap sounds. Children need to pronounce the sounds they see and then click on the screen to hear the sound. If it matches they can press the tick and move on and if not they will have to practise pronouncing the sounds correctly before moving on.

If you are in the Year 1+ group, I would like children to practise the reading games which can be found in 'Favourites' when logged in. Children should be able to sound out the sounds as well as read some simple words too. I will be able to track who has played the game and 1 house point will be rewarded next Wednesday.

Friday 1st October - Wednesday 6th October

For homework this week, I would like your child to log onto Busy Things, head towards 'Favourites' and find the game 'Tree Keys'. Your child can play this game multiple times during the week and it will help to build up the speed of recognising the keys on the keyboard when we have our ICT lessons every Friday. The amount of keys to recognise will get harder throughout the game.  I will be able to track who has played the game and 1 house point will be rewarded next Wednesday.

Please continue to use the flashcards on BusyThings to recap sounds. Children need to pronounce the sounds they see and then click on the screen to hear the sound. If it matches they can press the tick and move on and if not they will have to practise pronouncing the sounds correctly before moving on.

If you are in the Year 1+ group, I would like children to practise the game 'Feed the Monkey' which can be found in 'Favourites' when logged in. This time, your child will have increased numbers to work with. Your child will need to listen to the instruction and feed the monkey with the correct food.  I will be able to track who has played the game and 1 house point will be rewarded next Wednesday.

Friday 24th September - Wednesday 29th September

For homework this week, I would like your child to log onto Busy Things, head towards 'Favourites' and find the game 'Islands - More or fewer?'. Your child can play this game multiple times during the week and it will help to embed our learning from this week in Maths to do with more and less and greater than and fewer than. Children need to become used to the vocabulary used in Maths and this game will help reinforce this.  I will be able to track who has played the game and 1 house point will be rewarded next Wednesday.

Please continue to use the flashcards on BusyThings labelled 'L&S sets 2 & 3 recall' to practise the sounds at home. Children need to pronounce the sounds they see and then click on the screen to hear the sound. If it matches they can press the tick and move on and if not they will have to practise pronouncing the sounds correctly before moving on.

If you are in the Year 1+ group, I would like children to practise the game 'Action Time' again which can be found in 'Favourites' when logged in. Your child will need to watch carefully and count the actions the man makes. Then they will need to choose the matching number.  I will be able to track who has played the game and 1 house point will be rewarded next Wednesday.

Friday 17th September - Wednesday 22nd September

For homework this week, I would like your child to log onto Busy Things, head towards 'Favourites' and find the game 'Read and Feed'. Your child can play this game multiple times during the week and it encourages segmenting and blending. All children need to practise blending sounds together more confidently. The game will get progressively harder as more words are matched correctly to the pictures. I will be able to track who has played the game and 1 house point will be rewarded next Wednesday.

Friday 10th September - Wednesday 15th September

For homework this week, I would like your child to label parts of the body as we have been looking at this in Science. When you have logged in, click on 'Assignments' and you should see the homework appear. Please let your child complete this as independently as possible and only help them with reading. I will mark homework once the hand in date is over and 1 house point will be awarded for most body parts labelled correctly.

Please also practise verbally asking your child 1 more and 1 less than a given number up to 10 as this needs revisiting. Children can use objects at home to help them if needed. For example, what is 1 more than 5? What is 1 less than 8?

If you are in the Year 1+ group, I would like children to practise the game 'Feed the Monkey' which can be found in 'Favourites' when logged in. Practise giving the monkey a certain number of food items which will help with counting. I will be able to monitor the game being played and 1 house point will be awarded.

Friday 3rd September - Wednesday 8th September

For homework this week, I would like your child to log into Busy Things using their login information provided on the letter. An adult can help if needed. Once logged in, they need to click on the Year 1 button and they will see 'Favourites'. On this page you should be able to see a range of Maths and English games which I have added. I will change this throughout the year depending on the learning taking place. I would like your child to have a go at accessing these games to refresh the skills. I will be able to monitor games played and 1 house point will be rewarded for login and accessing games.

When I set a specific homework, this will be shown in the button called 'Assignments'.

If you have any problems please let me know.
