‘Through God’s love, we are the rich soil where
roots grow and seeds flourish.’ Luke 8:4-15

Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Year 6's Journey

Here you will find some photos of what we have been up to in class. Newer items will be towards the top of the page.

Remembrance Day 11.11.22

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row, #

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved, and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Our poppy wreath has red and purple poppies. Red to show respect towards all the people that died and purple to show respect towards all the animals that died.

We also made poppies and put them in our flower beds.

Creating a class poppy wreath

It is tradition at St Luke's that each class is to create a poppy wreath for our whole school Remembrance service. We decided that we wanted to combine all of our art skills into one. We worked as a class to create poppies that were painted, drawn and sewn. We also create some tissue paper poppies and collage ones. We all enjoyed this lesson!

Hockey

In PE, we have been learning lots of hockey skills. Mrs Bradbury is very impressed with us and thinks we're all doing a fantastic job!

Happy Diwali

We have been celebrating Diwali throughout our school. Mrs Odedra and Neeya came to school dressed in their traditional clothing to celebrate Diwali New Year. We also had a visit from some Foundation children who were also dressed in Sarees and Kurtas which was lovely to see.

Happy Diwali and Happy New Year!

Learning 4 Life

We have been working on our team work skills. In this lesson, we worked in teams and we had to build a bridge just using paper and tape. We had to co-operate with each other, listen to each other's ideas and encourage everyone to participate. We then tested our bridges with toy cars to see if they were stable enough.

Art - African Masks

In Art, we have been learning all about African masks and how they have a spiritual purpose for Africans. We discovered what traditional features African masks have such as the patterns, shapes and colours. We then created our own in the style of a relief scultpure!

Science - Heart Dissection

In Science, we have been learning about the circulatory system. We have been really lucky to actually examine a real lamb's heart after learning about them. We found this really exciting but some of us decided we would not like to become a surgeon in the future!
