Homework
As mentioned, reading is part of this year's homework, along with weekly spellings, both of which will help with the end-of-year phonics screening check. Children will need to practise their spellings weekly. Your child has a spelling book with their words listed, and the quiz will take place on Wednesday. Please do not use the book to practise with.
If you would like to complete additional activities to support your child's learning, I have outlined some suggestions below.

- Read and write common exception words
- Think of own ideas for a picture and write these as sentences using 'and', 'so', 'but' and 'because'.
- Know when to use a capital letter and where to put a full stop.
- Write questions using question words and a question mark.
- Write exclamation sentences using a capital letter and exclamation mark at the end.
- Blend and segment sounds when reading and writing.
- Explore and write poetry.
Skills in Maths
- Count in 10s to 50.
- Read any number up to 50.
- Count forwards and backwards from any number up to 50.
- Partition a number up to 50 into tens and ones.
- Identify 1 more/1 less than a number up to 50.
- Compare lengths and heights using vocabulary such as taller, longer and shorter.
- Measure objects using non-standard units of measurement; e.g. using cubes or paper clips to measure the length of a glue stick.
- Use a ruler to measure objects to the nearest cm
- Practical measurement to identify objects which are heavier or lighter.
- Practical measuring to identify objects which are full, empty, half-full, almost full or almost empty.

- Blend and segment sounds ck, sh, ch, ng, wh, ai, ay, ea, ee, e, y, oa, o, ow, oe, er, ir, ur, ou, ow, oo, ue and ew in words.
